Potted Raspberry - Black Jewel

Black Jewel is a black raspberry supplied as one potted plant. Extension references describe Jewel as vigorous, cold-hardy, and suitable for home gardens, with medium-to-large black fruit, good firmness, and excellent flavor. It is a summer-bearing cultivar that fruits on second-year floricanes. Plant form: 1 potted black raspberry plant USDA zones: 5–8 Chill requirement: 500–1,000 hours Fruiting type: Floricane / summer-bearing Pollination: Self-fruitful; one variety can set fruit Sun: Full sun Black raspberries form new canes from the crown rather than spreading from root suckers. Plant in fertile, well-drained soil and avoid wet sites; black raspberries are susceptible to Phytophthora root rot and Verticillium wilt. Tip new primocanes during summer to encourage branching, support the canes on a trellis, and remove spent floricanes after harvest. Browse the berry plant collection and review the cane berry planting guide before planting. Ripening time and crop size vary with region and care.
