Rainbow's End Dwarf Alberta Spruce

Rainbow's End Dwarf Alberta Spruce (Picea glauca 'Rainbow's End') is a narrow cone-shaped dwarf spruce that produces a second flush of bright creamy yellow growth in midsummer, reaching 4 to 5 feet tall and 2 to 3 feet wide in zones 3 through 8. The gold sits at the branch tips over green interior foliage, then matures to green by fall. The standard Dwarf Alberta Spruce grows once in spring and stays one shade of green all year. Rainbow's End is a sport of it that pushes twice, and the second push is gold. You get the same tidy, dense, self-shaping cone with a color change built into the middle of summer, when most evergreens have nothing to offer. Use it in matched pairs beside a door, in containers that stay outdoors, or repeated along a formal walk. Site it out of hot afternoon sun and out of drying winter wind, and watch for spider mites in hot dry spells, which is the usual weakness of this family. Light: full sun to partial sun, with afternoon shade in hot zones Water: even moisture, deep watering during drought Soil: moist, well drained, slightly acidic Care: no pruning needed, hose down the foliage in hot dry weather to discourage mites Add Rainbow's End Dwarf Alberta Spruce to your cart.
