One of the oldest jewelry making techniques, wire wrapped jewels were found in the Sumerian city of Ur (2000 BC) and in ancient Rome. Filigree metalwork dates back to 3000 BC in the Mesopotamian valley and has been used in jewelry making across cultures ever since. Mirta Tummino handpicks each gemstone for her elaborately detailed, yet delicate, wire-wrapped jewelry. Each piece is handmade in her Houston, Texas studio.
