Race to Umrah

The Story – Could you make it all the way to Makkah without catching a plane? That’s the challenge facing Hamzah, Maryam, and their friends from Morocco, Zimbabwe, and Indonesia. It’s a thrilling race to Umrah, where they travel by ship, train, tuk-tuk, hot air balloon, and even camels! Along the way they explore new countries, raise money for charity, and discover that the true race is the race to good deeds. Meet the Characters – Journey with Hamzah and Maryam from Wales, Lina and Layan from Morocco, Ismail from Zimbabwe, and Anisa and Ridwan from Indonesia. Each child has their own unique personality and excitement to share — from rescuing a kitten named Koko to spotting dolphins at sea or marvelling at the Pyramids in Egypt. Together, they show what it means to travel with faith, fun, and friendship. Behind the Story – Inspired by the television programme Race Across the World, this adventure combines the thrill of global travel with the spirit of Islamic learning. With no planes allowed, the children discover creative ways to continue their journey, reminding readers that every step towards Makkah can be an act of patience, courage, and worship. About the Author – Story by Kamal Ali, founder of My Salah Mat, written by Dr. Wendy Booth, lecturer at the University of South Wales, and brought to life by illustrator Hana Hanifah Ishwari.
