Motion & Daylight Sensor – High Ceiling (up to 39 ft)

Bluetooth-Powered Occupancy Sensing for Elevated Ceilings The RAB PIRW40/LCB is a Lightcloud Blue-compatible occupancy sensor with daylight harvesting that communicates wirelessly over Bluetooth Mesh, no gateway or hub required. It works directly with any Lightcloud Blue-enabled fixture, and just as importantly, it also works with any 0-10V dimmable fixture at all, RAB or not, when paired with a Lightcloud Blue line-voltage controller — turning fixtures that never had smart control into ones that respond to occupancy and daylight automatically. Built for ceilings up to 39 ft, it's sized for gyms, big-box retail, and other elevated-ceiling spaces. Lights On the Instant Someone Enters: Occupancy sensing brings the space to full brightness the moment someone walks in, improving safety and visibility, then dims or shuts the lights off automatically once the space empties out, with a timeout adjustable from 1 to 240 minutes to match how the space is actually used. PIR Sensing, a Reliable Choice for Elevated Ceilings: Passive infrared detection is a cost-effective, well-proven technology for gyms, open warehouses, and other large spaces with clear lines of sight and stable temperatures. Mounts to the Ceiling, With an Optional Bracket for Tricky Layouts: Install directly to a standard junction box at mounting heights up to 39 ft, a 20 ft detection diameter at that height. Where rafters, girders, or other structural features would block a flush-mounted sensor's sightline, the optional ARM/LCB bracket (sold separately) lets you angle or offset the sensor to restore a clear view of the space. Steady, Consistent Brightness, Automatically: Daylight harvesting continuously fine-tunes output to hold a room at a set lux threshold, so lights never run brighter, or use more energy, than the space actually needs at that moment, with no manual adjustment required. Hardwired for Power, Wireless for Control: The sensor draws its power from a standard junction box connection, using less than 0.5W, while all communication happens wirelessly over Bluetooth Mesh, with no gateway or hub required and no separate low-voltage control wiring to run. Adjustable From Your Phone: All sensor settings — sensitivity, timeout, dim levels, and daylight threshold — are configured through the Lightcloud Blue app rather than a physical dial on the sensor itself. 5-Year Warranty: Full manufacturer coverage — purchased through ELEDLights as an authorized RAB dealer.   Bring Smart Control to Your Gym, Retail, and Elevated-Ceiling Lighting This sensor's real power shows up when it's controlling fixtures that never had any smart features to begin with. Pair the PIRW40/LCB with a Lightcloud Blue line-voltage controller, and any 0-10V dimmable fixture already installed in your facility gains the same occupancy sensing and daylight harvesting as a purpose-built smart fixture, without replacing a single light. Retrofit Existing Fixtures Without New Fixtures: If your gym, retail space, or facility already runs 0-10V dimmable fixtures at elevated ceiling heights, this sensor and one or more Lightcloud Blue controllers can add motion-based control and daylight harvesting on top of what's already installed, no fixture replacement required. Real Energy Savings on Large, Rarely-Full Spaces: Gym floors, storage areas, and big-box retail zones are rarely occupied at every moment. Automatically dimming or shutting off lights in unoccupied zones, then bringing them back to full brightness the instant someone enters, can meaningfully cut lighting costs across a large space. One System Across RAB and Non-RAB Fixtures Alike: Because the sensor and controller communicate over the same Bluetooth Mesh network, a facility can mix RAB Lightcloud Blue-enabled fixtures with retrofitted non-RAB fixtures and control them all from the same app.   See Lightcloud Blue in Action This video covers the full Lightcloud Blue ecosystem across many RAB products. Some features require additional products beyond PIRW40/LCB. Frequently Asked Questions How does it install? The sensor mounts to a standard junction box, at heights up to 39 ft. Power is drawn from the same junction box wiring, so there's no separate low-voltage cable to run. In layouts where rafters, girders, or other structural features would block the sensor's sightline if mounted flush, the optional ARM/LCB bracket lets you angle or offset the sensor instead. Why not just use a simple plug-in occupancy or daylight sensor? A basic plug-in sensor works fine for a single fixture, but it has to be manually adjusted at the sensor itself every time sensitivity, timeout, or dim levels need to change, a real inconvenience at elevated mounting heights. This sensor is adjusted entirely from your phone, and one sensor can control up to 199 lights across an area instead of just the one it's mounted next to. How does it connect to my lights? There are two ways to use this sensor. If your fixtures are already Lightcloud Blue-enabled, it connects directly over Bluetooth Mesh, no gateway or hub required. If your fixtures aren't Lightcloud Blue-enabled, RAB or not, pair this sensor with a Lightcloud Blue line-voltage controller installed at the fixture, and the two communicate wirelessly, bringing the same occupancy sensing and daylight harvesting to a fixture that otherwise has no smart features at all. Is this sensor DLC listed or rebate-eligible? The sensor itself is not DLC listed. However, when paired with a DLC-qualified Lightcloud Blue controller, the overall lighting control system may still be eligible for utility rebates — check with your utility provider or our rebate assistance team to confirm what's available for your project. What's the wireless range, and what if my building has thick walls? Indoors, expect up to 60 ft of range through standard building materials, or up to 200 ft in a clear line of sight. Outdoors, range is up to 60 ft in a clear line of sight, or up to 18 ft around corners. Brick, concrete, and steel construction can reduce range further — additional Lightcloud Blue devices can help bridge the mesh network around these obstructions. Can it turn lights off completely, or does it keep them dimmed? Both options are available. When the space is vacant, you can set the sensor to turn lights fully off or to hold at a low dim level, whichever fits the application. Do I have to convert my whole facility at once? No. You can start with a single room or zone, install a sensor and controller there, and see the results before expanding further. Every device joins the same Bluetooth Mesh network, so adding more sensors and controllers later doesn't require any new infrastructure, just more devices on the same system. PIR vs. microwave: which should I choose? PIR sensors like this one often consume less energy than microwave alternatives and are best for open spaces with a clear line of sight. They can be less reliable near heat-generating equipment and cannot detect through obstructions. Microwave sensors often consume more energy but sees past racking, shelving, and stacked inventory. They are less prone to false triggers around industrial heat sources and often have a longer range. For an open space under 39 ft without obstructions or industrial heat sources, stick with this sensor. Otherwise, see MVSW50/LCB.     Ideal Applications Gyms & Fitness Facilities: Elevated ceiling detection and occupancy-based dimming suit gym floors and fitness spaces with intermittent use throughout the day. Big Box Retail & Large Sales Floors: High-mounting detection range and support for up to 199 lights per area suit large open retail floor plans. Retrofit Projects Adding Smart Control: Paired with a Lightcloud Blue line-voltage controller, this sensor brings occupancy sensing and daylight harvesting to existing 0-10V fixtures without a fixture replacement. Storage Areas & Stockrooms: Daylight harvesting reduces energy use in daylit storage areas with skylights or high windows.   The ELEDLights Advantage on RAB Authorized RAB Dealer: 5,000+ RAB units sold across our catalog, all with full RAB warranty coverage — a guarantee you won't get through gray market sellers, regardless of their listing claims.
