Quick Kits for Concrete Slab Radiant Heat Installation

Radiantec Concrete Slab “Quick Kits” What is a Radiantec Quick Kit? A Radiantec Quick kit is an easy to order package that will contain the material necessary to install radiant heat in a concrete slab (excluding your insulation). Many people don’t know how much tubing to put in and unfortunately, radiant heat isn’t a “one size fits all” proposition. Using our guidelines below you can easily figure out which kit you need based on your building size, slab thickness, and level of energy efficiency. The best part is if you are still unsure about what to order, all you have to do is give us a call! You provide the insulation and labor, we’ll provide the rest! IF YOU ORDER BY NOON EASTERN TIME, YOUR MATERIAL WILL SHIP THAT DAY!! Each Quick Kit comes with: 1/2″ Pex Tubing with oxygen barrier; enough to cover the square footage listed at 12″ spacing A tubing manifold with the fittings already attached as well as a pre-assembled pressure testing kit. There are no special tools required, just an adjustable wrench to tighten the fittings Zip ties Repair coupling (we hope you don’t need this but it’s there for the “just in case!”) Tubing cutter Custom tubing layout if you provide a pdf floor plan with manifold location(s) Installation video Technical advice/installation support How to Choose the Right Quick Kit: In a well insulated building with a 4-5″ slab, we plan on 1′ of tubing per square foot of space. So if the building is 1200 square feet you would order the QK1200. For us, well insulated means R19 walls/R38 roof insulation, an average number of windows, and insulated garage/overhead doors. If your building is not well insulated then order a slightly larger kit and space the tubing a little tighter. If your slab will be 6″ thick or more then you should plan for more tubing for a quicker response time. The tubing should be spaced about 10″ on center so multiply your area by 1.25 to come up with the right amount of tubing. What About Zones? We define a zone as an area controlled by a single thermostat. A zone can be a 30 square foot bathroom or a 3000 square foot shop. For many shops or garages, one zone is adequate. Keep in mind that a zone is different than a loop or circuit of tubing. You may have only one zone but there can be 4 or 5 circuits of tubing within it. Let’s say, though, that you have a 1500 square foot building where 1000 square feet is shop space and 500 square feet is storage. You may decide that those areas should be at different temperatures and will want to zone it as such. You then order QK1000 to cover the shop space and QK500 to cover the storage area which allows for 2 heating zones when you get ready to install the mechanical system.
