Queen Snapper Pendant

Queen snapper (Etelis oculatus) is a species of deep-sea fish found in warm waters, primarily in the Western Atlantic Ocean and the Caribbean.  Known for their vibrant coloring with a vivid, pinkish-red color on its body and fins. They have large, shiny eyes, which is how they get their species name "oculatus," which means "having eyes" in Latin. Queenies are typically found in deep waters, often at depths ranging from 200 to 1,000 feet (60 to 300 meters). They are associated with rocky or coral reef environments, where they seek shelter in crevices and caves during the day. Queen snapper are nocturnal predators, which means they primarily feed at night. They prey on various smaller fish and invertebrates, making them an important part of the deep-sea food web. Queen snapper can grow to be relatively large. They can reach lengths of up to 24 inches (60 centimeters) or more, with the largest individuals exceeding 3 feet (1 meter) in length. They are sought after for their tasty flesh, which is often described as sweet and mild. As a result, they are a popular target for sport and deep-sea anglers. Queen snapper is a unique and fascinating species that plays a role in the biodiversity of deep-sea ecosystems. Conservation efforts and responsible fishing practices are essential to help maintain healthy populations of these beautiful fish.
