A common concern is whether HEPA/EPA filters can filter viruses like the COVID-19 coronavirus. HEPA/EPA filters removes particles greater than or equal to 0.3 microns, but virus particles are smaller. The coronavirus measures 0.06 to 0.14 microns in diameter. Are air purifiers then powerless against viruses? Actually, HEPA/EPA filters work great at capturing viruses. This is because a HEPA/EPA filter works not like a net, but through a process called diffusion. Learn more about how this works here. How often should I change my QT3 E11 filter? We recommend changing the filter after 800 hours of use. The QT3 has a built-in feature to remind you when 800 hours of use have passed. Can I wash a dirty HEPA/EPA filter? Unfortunately not. We ran experiments to test this and found that washing HEPA/EPA filters does not prolong their lifespan. In fact, washing HEPA/EPA filters with water actually decreases performance.
