Purple smoke tree

Cotinus coggygria This striking ornamental shrub or small tree is prized for its rich deep purple foliage and airy, smoke-like flower plumes that appear in late spring to summer. The soft pinkish-purple blooms create a hazy cloud effect above the foliage, adding dramatic texture and color to the landscape. Rounded leaves emerge a vivid burgundy-purple and often intensify through the season before developing brilliant shades of scarlet and orange in fall. Its sculptural branching habit and bold foliage make it an excellent specimen plant, accent, or focal point in garden beds and water-wise landscapes.
