Purple Firefish Goby

Purple Firefish Goby (Nemateleotris decora) The Purple Firefish Goby, also known as the Decorated Firefish, is an elegant and colorful reef fish prized for its vibrant purple body, brilliant yellow face, and long, flowing dorsal fin. Graceful and peaceful, this beautiful fish hovers effortlessly above the rockwork before quickly darting back into its favorite cave when startled. Its striking coloration and unique swimming style make it a favorite among reef hobbyists of all experience levels. Native to the reef slopes of the Indo-Pacific, Purple Firefish Gobies inhabit areas with rocky crevices and caves where they can retreat for safety. In the home aquarium, they thrive in mature reef systems with plenty of live rock, secure hiding places, and open swimming areas. Once acclimated, they spend much of their day hovering in the water column, creating a graceful and captivating display. Purple Firefish are completely reef safe and coexist well with peaceful fish, corals, and invertebrates. They readily accept a variety of foods including frozen mysis shrimp, enriched brine shrimp, copepods, finely chopped seafood, and high-quality marine pellets. Due to their timid nature, they should be housed with other peaceful tank mates that won't outcompete them for food. A tightly fitting aquarium lid is essential, as Purple Firefish Gobies are excellent jumpers and may leap from uncovered aquariums if startled.
