Progesterone in Oil Description Progesterone in Oil (Progestan) is an intramuscular injection.Progesterone in Oil is generally used to treat absent menstrual periods. It can also be used in treating abnormal uterine bleeding caused by hormone imbalance. It may also be used for other conditions as determined by a doctor. Progesterone in Oil is a progestin hormone. It is injected intramuscularly. While many progesterone preparations rely on thick peanut or sesame oil bases that can trigger adverse reactions in some people, we offer a different approach. We carry Progestan, which utilizes Ethyl Oleate as its carrier. This synthetic oil is thinner than traditional bases and so is generally easier to inject and is often better tolerated by patients sensitive to standard oils. If you have an adverse reaction to the oils used in Progesterone injections, or are simply not a fan of the large IM needles, we do have a new alternative available – Prolutex. For a side-by-side comparison of injectable Progesterone medications, see our blog post: PIO vs Prolutex.
