They contain powerful plant compounds known as phytochemicals which perform numerous functions throughout the body. Sometimes people find it difficult to attain the recommended 5-7 servings of produce a day, and that’s where Pro Reds and other Pro Powders by Nutritional Frontiers come in. Pro Reds contains the following array of health-promoting produce: orange, carrot, beet, apple, berries, acerola, watermelon, cranberry, pomegranate, black cherries, papaya, plum, peach, broccoli, collards, spinach, and grapefruit. In addition to fruits and vegetables, Pro Reds features added nutrients and herbs such as the antioxidants quercetin, milk thistle grape seed extract, resveratrol, green tea, and more. Antioxidants battle damage from free radicals, which are believed to play a role in numerous health conditions like aging, cancer, and atherosclerosis. Resveratrol is an antioxidant that boasts variety of potentially therapeutic applications in inflammation, cancer, aging, & diabetes. Green tea (Camellia sinensis) contains polyphenols and flavonoids (like EGCG) which reduce inflammation & oxidative stress. Milk thistle (Silybum marianum) is utilized to regulate liver function and has been shown to manage non-alcoholic and alcoholic liver damage, cirrhosis, fatty liver, and exposure to chemical pollutants. Its active constituent, silybin, acts as an antioxidant. Quercetin has been studied for its anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, anticarcinogenic, and anti-viral activity along with immune modulation. Pro Reds boasts inositol, phosphatidylserine (from sunflower lecithin), and the omega-3 fatty acid-rich flax seed. Inositol, classified as a B-vitamin, has been used clinically to help those with anxiety and/or depression. Phosphatidylserine has been examined for its effects on mood, memory, and cognition especially in elderly populations. Flax seed contains essential fatty acids which are anti-inflammatory and sustain healthy cell membranes. L-Carnitine and CoQ10 comprise important elements of Pro Reds to assist cardiovascular health. CoQ10 is an antioxidant which assists in the formation of the basic energy molecule ATP. L-Carnitine helps restore mitochondrial content. It also may play a role in improving insulin resistance, glucose tolerance, and arterial hypertension. Pro Reds provides arabinogalactans and N,N-Dimethylglycine (DMG) for immune support. DMG, a derivative of the amino acid glycine, was patented over three decades ago for treating systemic inflammatory disease, modulating immune response, and boasts in vitro evidence of antioxidant effects via free radical scavenging activity and enhancement of the endogenous antioxidant defense system. Pro Reds includes bilberry, Lutemax®2020, astaxanthin, and concentrated lycopene from LycoBeads®. Bilberry fruit contains anthocyanosides: plant pigments rich in antioxidants. Anthocyanosides strengthen blood vessels, improve circulation, help avoid platelet aggregation, and enhance rhodopsin production which improves night vision. Lutemax®2020 is a patented marigold flower extract containing the macular carotenoids lutein and zeaxanthin. Taking antioxidant pigments as supplements correlates with increased levels of macular pigment measured in the retina and may also improve visual function. Research on Lutemax®2020 has also shown decreased cortisol levels and increased BDNF (brain-derived neurotrophic factor), a protein that supports neuronal health. Lycopene (found in LycoBeads®) is red carotenoid concentrated in the human body in serum, liver, adrenal glands, lungs, prostate, colon, and skin. Lycopene acts to protect cells from oxidative stress, as well as inhibit cell proliferation. Pro Reds has added fiber as Fibersol®-2. Fibersol®-2 is a soluble fiber comprised of a digestion-resistant maltodextrin. Fiber serves many purposes, including binding toxins in the intestines to aid in detoxification, helping glucose and lipid control, and supporting proper bowel function, regularity, fecal volume, and beneficial intestinal micro flora. What makes Fibersol®-2 unique is that it is so soluble and less dense than other fibers that it mixes in¬stantly and does not cause bloating or intestinal gas, like other fiber products. Fibersol®-2 is not only well-tolerated but also results in favorable fermentation characteristics in the large bowel, assisting production of the short chain fatty acid butyrate which is the preferred fuel source of colon cells. Pro Reds can be mixed simply with water, juice, smoothie, or any beverage. Pro powders are convenient: they do not spoil, like the produce rotting in your fridge; you don’t have to worry about what’s in season; and they taste great, ensuring compliance for “picky” eaters!
