The Pro-Ject XB 1 turntable looks great, but most importantly, it sounds great on top of that. There are countless options out there for audiophile turntables, so spending nearly $1,000 can feel like a lot for playing a music format that nearly qualifies as ancient. However, I promise you that it’s worth it. The X1 B is the best turntable I have reviewed in this price range, and it’s no wonder that so many people think of Pro-Ject when they are looking for a turntable, as the quality of this product is superb. " - Andrew Dewhirst    Pro-Ject X1B Turntable and S3B Phono Stage Review - Read More "In case you’ve skipped ahead to the end of this (booooo!), this is a quite exceptional combination of electronics. We all have different itches that need scratching with our systems and this one scratches mine in a way that would probably set my leg spasming. I love vinyl as a medium and have done for over twenty years but I’ve been engaged in a - not inconsequentially expensive - war with noise for most of that time. The X1B and S3B arrive like a sort of cheat code; by using different rules they do things that are normally the preserve of the high end. Pro-Ject is really, really onto something here." - Ed Selley   Pro-Ject Audio System X1 Turntable Review - Read More "For the money, Pro-Ject’s new X1 is something of a star. This price point is where this company really excels, and the deck’s combination of sound quality, flexibility and ease of set-up and use is hard to beat. In other words, it does precisely what that original Pro-Ject 1 did – but a whole lot better. " - David Price     Pro-Ject Audio Systems X1 Turntable with Sumiko Oyster Olympia Cartridge - Read More "After spending several weeks with the Pro-Ject X1, I see why Doug raved about it. It is, in my estimation, one of the best turntables I’ve ever auditioned—up there with the VPI Cliffwood. The Sumiko Oyster Olympia cartridge is a great match to the turntable, and the combination offers absolutely fabulous sound. It isn’t inexpensive by my standards, but I firmly believe that the Pro-Ject X1 is a turntable you can enjoy now and for a very, very long time. It really deserves a long and careful listen. " - Thom Moon   Pro-Ject X1 - Read More "Pro-Ject’s X1 is an impressive turntable package for the price, but no shortcut to high-end analogue replay. It makes music in a happy, engaging and big-hearted way and has no real weak points to spoil your enjoyment. You can get a cleaner, sharper and more precise sound from your records, but you’ll have to spend more to do so. Don’t be fooled by the similarities to that first Pro-Ject; this is worlds apart and shows just how far the turntable market has evolved, making it an essential audition for those on a tight budget.
