Prinknash Abbey Petite Pitcher Vintage. Found in a flea market in Somerset, England. Made of white clay found on the abbey grounds. Glazed in Prinknash Abbey signature metallic glaze. Stamped with maker's mark. 3"w x 3.5"h About Prinknash Abbey Pottery Prinknash Abbey Pottery was founded in the 1940s by the Benedictine monks of Prinknash Abbey in Gloucestershire, England, after clay was discovered on the abbey grounds. What began as an experiment in the monastery developed into a thriving pottery that remained in production for more than fifty years. Prinknash is perhaps best known for its distinctive metallic glazes in deep gunmetal black, bronze and soft pewter tones. Applied over a warm red earthenware body, these lustrous finishes give the pottery the appearance of aged metal and make even the simplest forms feel wonderfully sculptural. The monks produced a range of useful and decorative pieces, including jugs, bowls, vases, mugs and candlesticks. Simple shapes, substantial forms and those unmistakable glazes give vintage Prinknash pottery a character all its own. Made in England and rooted in the Benedictine tradition of work and craftsmanship, vintage Prinknash pieces have become increasingly collectible—a lovely bit of English studio pottery with an especially good story.
