In addition to its aesthetic appeal, this ginkgo is also remarkably drought-tolerant, making it a practical choice for gardens in a variety of climates. Its resilience and adaptability mean it can thrive in less-than-ideal conditions, contributing to a low-maintenance and visually striking landscape. Whether you're looking to enhance your home’s curb appeal or create a peaceful retreat in your backyard, the Presidential Gold® Ginkgo Tree is sure to add character and beauty for years to come. Planting & Care 1. Planting: Choose a location with full sun to partial shade for optimal growth. Dig a hole that is twice as wide as the root ball and about the same depth. Ginkgo trees prefer well-draining soil, so consider adding organic matter or compost if your soil is heavy or clay-like. Place the tree in the hole, ensuring that the top of the root ball is level with the surrounding soil, and backfill gently. Water thoroughly after planting. 2. Watering: While this ginkgo is drought-tolerant once established, regular watering should be provided during the first growing season to help establish deep roots. Water deeply but infrequently, allowing the top inch or two of soil to dry out between watering sessions. After establishment, you can reduce the frequency of watering, especially in rainy seasons. 3. Pruning: Minimal pruning is needed, but you can shape the tree lightly during its dormant season if necessary. This is the best time to remove any crossing branches or to thin out crowded areas to allow for better air circulation and light penetration. Avoid heavy pruning, as it may lead to stress. 4. Fertilizing: Generally, ginkgo trees are not heavy feeders, but applying a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in early spring can support healthy growth. Follow the manufacturer’s recommendations for the amount based on your tree's age and size, as over-fertilizing can harm its health. ---
