Propola Hive Box

FOR THE HIVE, NOT THE HUMANS. Since their origins, honey bees have been enveloping their nests with a natural, resinous substance called propolis. Research has shown that this propolis envelope is a critical part of the colony’s natural defense against disease.1 The Propola hive body, with its roughened interior walls, restores the natural propolis envelope inside the Langstroth hive — giving bees the natural habitat they know and need. RESTORE THE PROPOLIS ENVELOPE The modern, smooth-walled beehive discourages bees from coating their hives in propolis. The Propola hive features roughened and grooved interior walls to encourage propolis collection and restore the propolis envelope inside the hive.2 This creates a healthy, stable environment for your bees. Research has shown that the Propola hive leads to many individual- and colony-level health benefits. The antimicrobial properties of the propolis envelope significantly reduce the presence of American foulbrood3, European foulbrood4, and chalkbrood diseases, among others.5 There is even some evidence that propolis lowers the fertility of Varroa destructor.6 Perhaps most importantly, the propolis envelope greatly reduces bees’ immune response, meaning your bees will feel healthier and be more productive. Currently not available in 8-frame What is a Propola Hive? Recently, honeybees have faced significant health challenges intensified by diseases, environmental toxins, and habitat degradation. However, an innovative solution from Premier Bee Products, the Propola Hive, aims to leverage bees' natural defenses to foster healthier colonies. This summary explores how the Propola Hive is designed to support bees by re-introducing a crucial natural element into their habitat. Key Features and Benefits of the Propola Hive: Natural Defense Restoration: The Propola Hive mimics the natural environment of honeybees by reintroducing the propolis envelope, a protective barrier made from plant resins, which bees naturally produce. Improved Hive Health: The roughened interior of the Propola Hive encourages bees to deposit propolis, thereby restoring their natural defense mechanism against stressors. Disease Resistance: A propolis-rich environment significantly enhances the bees’ ability to resist common diseases such as foul brood and chalk brood. Reduced Immune Response: With the presence of a propolis envelope, bees exhibit a reduced immune response, indicating a healthier and more stable environment. Enhanced Productivity: The healthier environment leads to increased productivity within the colony, contributing to stronger and more vigorous bee populations. Population Growth: The Propola Hive has been shown to increase the population by up to two frames of bees per hive, leading to larger and more robust colonies. Opportunities for Beekeepers: Enhanced colony health and size offer beekeepers more opportunities for honey production and pollination services. Sustainability: By providing a habitat that closely mimics their natural environment, the Propola Hive supports the long-term sustainability of bee colonies. The Innovative Design of the Propola Hive  The Propola Hive from Premier Bee Products represents a significant step forward in addressing honeybees' health crisis. By restoring the natural propolis envelope that bees have used since their origins, this innovative hive design improves the health and productivity of bee colonies and offers practical benefits for beekeepers.
