Shimmering Threads

Composer(s): Paul Rudy A shimmering meditation on sound, memory, and the natural world, this evocative work for saxophone quartet draws inspiration from the trembling aspen groves of the Rocky Mountains. Breath-like textures and shifting sonorities capture the wind as it moves through leaves, creating a living soundscape that blurs the line between silence and music. In a distinctive interactive element, audience members join the performance by using their smartphones to contribute to the sonic landscape, surrounding the quartet with a field of gentle, flickering sound. The result is a deeply immersive experience—subtle, atmospheric, and profoundly expressive—inviting performers and listeners alike into a shared space of listening, reflection, and quiet wonder.
