Prairie Expedition® Elm Tree

Classic Umbrella Form on a Durable, Desirable Elm For a cold-hardy and Dutch Elm Disease-resistant plant, the Prairie Expedition® Elm Tree is a perfect choice! Named in honor of the Lewis and Clark 200th anniversary, this tree also goes by the Lewis and Clark Elm. If you’re searching for a tree that can provide shade and gorgeous color for 100 years or more, this is the tree for you! It was developed from a parent American Elm tree that was the lone survivor of Dutch Elm and has been cultivated to be both long-lasting and easy to maintain. Not only is it mostly low-maintenance, but the Prairie Expedition® Elm Tree is also tolerant of urban pollution. Whether you want to add it to a local park, street, or other urban sites where larger trees are desired, this bit of greenery will liven up any space it’s planted in. This tree’s deep green, deciduous leaves have even more green in the spring with small flowers that bloom before the foliage emerges. And in fall, it changes to a quintessential autumn yellow. Plus, it has a stunning and classic, cathedral, umbrella shape, transforming any landscape! All this tree needs is a place with full sunlight and space to grow. It adapts easily to most soil types, dry conditions, and some standing water as well!  Order your own Prairie Expedition® Elm Tree today for a strong, sturdy addition that you can enjoy for years to come! Planting & Care 1. Planting: Place your elm in an area where it can receive full sunlight (between 6-8 hours per day) in well-drained soil. Since it has a high canopy of foliage that sits well above the ground, it should not be planted underneath power lines. 2. Watering: Though it’s adaptable to both wet and dry sites, this tree prefers rich, moist soil.  3. Pruning: This tree is best pruned in late winter once the threat of extreme cold has passed. As it matures, the lower branches of this tree can be removed to support unobstructed human traffic underneath by adding height to the canopy.
