Practice (Power of Practice) ~ Subliminal

Power of Practice — If you want to improve in anything, practice is the proven method. Why? Practice actually rewires your brain. The more we do something the more brain itself develops patterns to facilitate and enhance the doing. A common quip among neuroscientists is “neurons that fire together, wire together.” In wiring together, both the speed and strength of signal is increased. The result, we think and act quicker. Bottom line, practice increases neural activity that causes the growth of Myelin and this leads to myelinated neurons that perform better. The better the brain performs, the better we perform. Decide how good you want to be and go to work becoming just that. Be patient with yourself. Discipline yourself. Learn the proper way to practice your chosen skill or discipline. Motivate yourself to take the long view. Dr. K. Anders Ericsson's research is the basis for the "10,000-hour rule" touted by Malcolm Gladwell. Ericsson suggests that it requires at least ten years and/or 10,000 hours of deliberate practice to achieve an expert level of performance in any given domain – and in the case of musicians, more like 15-25 years in order to attain an elite international level.
