Anthony joined the movement. On August 26, 1920, after more than half a century of non-violent protest, perseverance and courage by these women and the generation that followed, the 19th Amendment granting woman suffrage was ratified. Earlier in U.S. history, some women were granted the right to vote and it was later taken away.
