Portage Seasonal Blend

Ruby Coffee Roasters' Portage Seasonal Blend is the coffee equivalent of your favorite wool sweater—comforting, reliable, and surprisingly layered. This medium-dark roast anchors itself in exceptional Brazilian microlots, often rounded out with complementary beans from Central America and Ethiopia. The result is a cup that forgoes bright acidity in favor of deep, malty sweetness with notes of fudge, dark raisin, praline, and cocoa powder that linger long after the last sip. The name pays homage to the portage trails that connected waterways and communities, and this coffee lives up to that spirit of connection. It's a bridge-builder in your rotation—the blend that works morning or evening, solo or with dessert, hot or cold. Ruby designed Portage to be accessible without being boring, comforting without being one-dimensional. Tasting NotesExpect a rich, syrupy body with flavors of dark chocolate fudge transitioning into dried fruit sweetness—think raisins and dates. The praline note adds a toasted, nutty complexity, while a dusting of cocoa powder on the finish keeps things from veering into cloying territory. Acidity is soft and supportive rather than bright, making this an approachable cup for those who find lighter roasts too sharp. The finish is clean but substantial, with lingering chocolate and malt. Brew MethodsPortage truly shines as cold brew, where its chocolate and caramel notes concentrate into something almost dessert-like without added sugar. The low acidity means you get sweetness without harshness, even after 16-24 hours of steeping. That said, it's impressively versatile: pull it as espresso for thick, fudgy shots that work beautifully in milk drinks; brew it in a French press for maximum body and mouthfeel; or dial it in on a pour over (V60, Chemex) if you want to explore its layered complexity with a slightly cleaner cup. It's forgiving across grind sizes and brew ratios, making it ideal for home baristas still dialing in their technique.
