Pork Lard, small

A staple for anyone looking to cook with healthy fats Rendered from the melted fat of pigs raised on the open pastures of our family farm, this lard is superior to the factory-processed liquid oils you'll find on most store shelves. Because our pigs enjoy a life in the sunshine and fresh air, their bodies absorb and store vitamin D from the sun in their fatty tissues. As a result, pastured pork lard is one of the two highest natural sources for Vitamin D. And since our bodies need fat to absorb essential vitamins, using moderate amounts of pork lard and other healthy fats in cooking can actually help us live a healthier life. For the most part, lard can be used anywhere you might already use butter. It's especially popular for baking pies, cookies, pastries and biscuits. You'll be amazed at the flakiness of a pie crust or softness of a dough made with this lard. With a higher smoke point (375°F) than liquid oils or vegetable shortening, lard doesn't break down and oxidize as quickly as other fats. All this means you can use it to fry, sauté, or bake foods without worrying about eating a heavily oxidized food that may cause inflammation and cell damage. Cast-iron friendly, lard is also perfect for greasing any pan. Packed in a convenient, small 1.5 lb. tub. Store in the refrigerator after opening.
