The PONDEROSA Natural Lemon-Citron Hybrid Tree

The Ponderosa Lemon: one fruit can fill a whole bowl. The Ponderosa Lemon isn't a true lemon at all — it's a natural lemon-citron hybrid, and it shows in the fruit. Where a grocery lemon fits in your palm, a single Ponderosa can swell to the size of a grapefruit and tip the scales at a pound or more, with a thick, bumpy, deep-yellow rind and a head-turning shape no other citrus produces. Cut one open, and you'll find genuinely tart, fragrant juice and a generous, pithy rind packed with aromatic zest. It's equal parts conversation piece and working kitchen lemon — the tree people remember after they've seen it fruit. Why growers choose the Ponderosa Spectacularly large fruit. Grapefruit-sized lemons weighing a pound or more make this the showpiece of any citrus collection — and a single fruit goes a long way in the kitchen. Tart juice and abundant zest. The flavor is true lemon-sharp, and the thick rind yields far more fragrant zest than an ordinary lemon, perfect for marmalades, candied peel, and baking. Everbearing. A healthy plant flowers and fruits in flushes throughout the year, so it's common to see fat green fruit, ripening yellow fruit, and sweet white blossoms on the tree all at once. Compact and container-friendly. Naturally small and shrubby, the Ponderosa stays manageable in a pot — a patio centerpiece that overwinters indoors in cold regions. Ornamental year-round. Glossy evergreen leaves, purple-tinged white blooms, and oversized hanging fruit make it as decorative as it is productive. Part novelty, part genuinely useful kitchen citrus, the Ponderosa Lemon rewards growers with fruit that draws a crowd and zest and juice that earn their place in real cooking — all from a plant compact enough for a sunny patio or a bright indoor room.
