Handcrafted in the village of Tunis — a picturesque settlement nestled between Lake Qaroun and the desert dunes of the Fayoum Oasis — the Pond Ceramic Serving Plate is a piece with a story as rich as its glaze. In the 1980s, Swiss ceramic artist Evelyn Porret founded a pottery school in Tunis, introducing the village children to the craft of clay. Her graduates became the village's master potters, shaping a distinctly Tunisian aesthetic: hand-formed pieces adorned with primitive motifs drawn from the local flora and fauna — fish, birds, and the waterways of Egypt's ancient landscape. Each Pond Ceramic Serving Plate is shaped from clay sourced along the Nile banks of Aswan, then hand-glazed and painted with the signature fish motif that gives the piece its name. No two are identical. Slight variations in colour and form are not imperfections — they are evidence of the hands that made it. Lead-free and food-safe, it works equally well as a serving centrepiece or a decorative display piece. Both playful and refined, it brings a rare artisanal touch to the everyday table.
