Polyvine Top Coat Craquelure System  Achieve a Classic Aged Finish with Cracked Varnish To achieve an authentic traditional aged finish, our top-quality Polyvine product offers a remarkable cracked varnish effect. This effect is created using a straightforward two-part system that incorporates the use of a base coat and a top coat, both of which are clear acrylic. This system beautifully replicates the intricate crazed patterns commonly found on old porcelain glazes. To enhance the crackle effect achieved by our craquelure system, consider using our crack highlighter, available in either white or dark brown. This will add an extra touch of antiquity to your finish. Please remember that both the base coat and the top coat are required to create this stunning effect. Information from the manufacturer: DS - Technical Data Sheet MSDS - Material Safety Data Sheet ⚠ Important: Compatibility Test Recommended Every finishing project is a system involving wood type, surface preparation, application method, and the combination of products used together. Always apply a small test area (on a hidden spot or scrap) using your full product stack — stain or paint followed by Polyvine — before coating the entire project. This confirms compatibility between layers; you are not just testing Polyvine, but the interaction of all materials used in the project. Caution: If any base product contains oil or wax (including many products with “oil” or “wax” in the name), allow adequate time for full cure before applying a water-based finish. Follow the other manufacturer’s cure-time guidance, then allow additional buffer time within your test period. Some products that feel “dry” may still be curing, and water-based topcoats can be less forgiving if wax- or oil-based solvents are still evaporating (out-gassing) from the layer beneath.
