2 Lb. Polyisocyanurate Foam Sheets

Our 2 lb./cubic foot Polyisocyanurate Foam Sheets are best suited for moldless pattern-making and for sandwich core applications where insulation is a factor. The properties of this foam are similar to those of our 2 lb. Mix and Pour Foam (#24/25), so it can be easily cut and shaped with a sharp knife or sandpaper. Sheets are rigid and available in a variety of thicknesses. Closed-cell structure resists oil, gasoline, and water absorption. Glue sheets together to form thicker blocks for shaping functional, moldless parts. Store unused foam away from direct sunlight to avoid degradation. Temperature range: -300°F to 300°F 2 lb. Polyisocyanurate foam sheets, commonly known as PIR foam, are a type of rigid foam insulation material that can be used in composite applications. Here is some information about the use of PIR foam sheets in composites: Density and Lightweight: The density of 2 lb. PIR foam sheets refers to the weight of the foam per cubic foot. A lower density foam such as 2 lb. PIR foam is relatively lightweight, making it suitable for applications where weight reduction is important. Insulating Properties: 2 lb. PIR foam sheets have excellent thermal insulating properties. This makes them suitable for applications where thermal insulation is an important factor. Core Material in Sandwich Structures: 2 lb. PIR foam sheets are often used as a core material in sandwich structures. In a composite sandwich panel, the PIR foam sheet is sandwiched between two outer layers (skins) made of other composite materials. This configuration provides strength, rigidity, and thermal insulation to the composite structure. Bonding: 2 lb. PIR foam sheets can be bonded to each other and to other composite materials using appropriate adhesives or bonding techniques. The bonding process should ensure a strong and durable bond between the foam sheet and the surrounding composite layers. Compatibility with Resins: 2 lb. PIR foam sheets are compatible with various resin systems, including polyester, vinyl ester, and epoxy resins. However, it is important to ensure proper adhesion between the foam and the resin system by using compatible adhesives or primers if required. Surface Preparation: Prior to bonding or applying resin, the surface of the PIR foam sheets should be prepared appropriately. This may involve cleaning, sanding, or applying a primer to improve adhesion and ensure a strong bond between the foam and other composite materials. Mechanical Properties: 2 lb. PIR foam sheets offer good compressive strength, dimensional stability, and impact resistance. These properties contribute to the overall structural integrity and performance of the composite component. Fire Resistance: 2 lb. PIR foam sheets exhibit good fire resistance properties, which is an important consideration in certain applications where fire safety is crucial. When using 2 lb. Polyisocyanurate foam sheets in composites, it is essential to follow the guidelines and recommendations regarding storage, handling, cutting, bonding, and compatibility with specific resin systems. Proper surface preparation, adhesive selection, and processing techniques are key factors in achieving high-quality and reliable composite structures.
