Podophyllum – Spotty Dotty Asian Mayapple

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text css=””] We’re thrilled to offer this brilliant hybrid of several Asian Mayapples, Spotty Dotty Asian Mayapple Podophyllum. Spotty Dotty delights us with large, vigorous, lobed umbrella-like leaves. In spring, the new leaves are chartreuse with dramatic chocolate-brown spotting. In summer, the fascinating leaves are green with lightly spotted areas. Its large garnet-red flowers are found beneath the leaves in clusters of 5 or more. Spotty Dotty Asian Mayapple boasts exceptional coloring, frost tolerance, vigor, and rhizomatous habit. Just like our native Mayapple, Spotty Dotty Asian Mayapple prefers shade and cool, moist, organic soils. Protect from hard frosts in spring. Avoid drought stress. If given the correct conditions, Spotty Dotty Asian Mayapple thrives in the St. Louis area. You can see it for yourself, the Missouri Botanical Garden has a wonderful mature specimen of Spotty Dotty Podophyllum that we have been observing for years. Plant in shade to part shade in soil amended with organic material. [/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
