Key Characteristics: Size: 13-14 inches total length (including long tail) Lifespan: 15-20+ years with proper care Distinctive Features: Males: Striking purple-red (plum) head, black neck ring, turquoise shoulder patch. Females: Grey head, no neck ring, less vivid coloration. Temperament: Gentle, quiet, observant, and can be quite affectionate. The Plum-Headed Parakeet Personality Plum-Headed Parakeets are the “gentle souls” of the Asiatic parakeet family. They are known for their quiet, calm disposition and tend to be less demanding and noisy than their Ringneck or Alexandrine cousins. They are intelligent and observant, often content to watch household activities from a favorite perch. While not typically known as extensive talkers, they can learn to mimic some sounds and whistle tunes. They form strong bonds with their caregivers and enjoy gentle interaction, but they also appreciate their independence. Their manageable noise level and sweet nature make them ideal for apartment living or peaceful households.
