Play Shirt - Black

W'Menswear was founded by Lauren Yates in 2015, born out of a desire to produce high-quality, heritage-inspired garments for women — with a nuanced and ever-evolving perspective on femininity at the intersections of fashion, workwear, military garments, and history. Originally operating out of a converted shipping container in Bangkok, the brand has grown substantially with each new collection, employing specialty and custom fabrics as well as partnering with local workshops and artisans. The Spring/Summer 2025 collection is titled "Spinning For A Revolution," and draws inspiration from early women's cycling apparel, suffragette cyclists from the late 1800s, and the writings of Dervla Murphy — whose stories detailed her solo bicycle journey from Ireland to India in the early '60s. Following its invention, women began to enjoy unexpected new freedom through bicycle travel, allowing them to access social spheres and spaces outside of the home, and freeing them from the restrictive dress norms of the era. The Play Shirt is aptly named, with a design that's both stylish and fun taking inspiration from the illustrations of Mary Petty, featuring balloon sleeves and ruffle details at the collar, placket, and cuffs. With a fairly natural fit through the torso, the silhouette is exaggerated beyond the shoulders, terminating in short sleeves that are perfect for hot weather. Even with the embellishments, the overall cut is relaxed and easy, great for layering, but also great on its own. It's made from a soft black linen/acetate blend fabric. Milled in Japan, it's soft and airy, with a luxurious hand feel and a gentle drape throughout. Fits true to size.
