Play! Recorders in the Classroom Vol. 1 - Grade 3 Student

In VOLUME IV of Play! Recorders in the Classroom, David Gable remains steadfast in his systematic approach to playing recorders with the young. This volume, designed for sixth and seventh grades, moves sequentially through advancing skills for treble clef recorders, now including the TENOR! The Teacher’s Guide includes cultural and historical information, which allows teachers to provide context for the music and integrate it more fully into the curriculum. The author builds a structure that will enable teachers to simultaneously extend student skills and introduce students to the larger instruments as they become ready. Clear, methodical instructions are provided, enabling the teacher to lead the class in playing rich and harmonious music, from Medieval to modern. This selection of music is perfectly aligned to the techniques involved for soprano, alto, and tenor recorders. The music is attuned to grades six and seven curricula, yet it can also be used to extend skill development into the eighth grade. A diverse selection of music across cultures and world views makes for satisfying and uplifting music that opens doors to music from around the world while building skills and making a beautiful weaving of melodies and harmonies! This entire “Play! Recorders in the Classroom” series offers a simple, clear, delightful way to follow the indications given to the first Waldorf teachers, age by age, in mastering a wind instrument (next step up from singing!). The author draws on decades of experience as a Waldorf teacher and as a professional musician to build this helpful series. Try it — You will see how possible and wonderful it is to play recorders with a class in school
