From a spring 2025 body of work, Plant Intelligence 2 is a dimensional, tactile fiber piece composed of wool, organic raffia, and reclaimed yarns. The work combines areas of tufted wool with meticulous, slow hand-stitching using a range of fibers, foregrounding both labor and material diversity. The piece is informed by the artist’s ongoing communion with the natural world and a sustained attentiveness to the quiet processes unfolding continuously around us. Abstract references to shared biological functions suggest the deep interconnections that unite all living systems. The artist’s growing appreciation for plant intelligence was further shaped by reading Zoë Schlanger’s The Light Eaters: How the Unseen World of Plant Intelligence Offers a New Understanding of Life on Earth, which expanded the conceptual framework of the work.
