Planetary Gears Necklace - Kinetic Engineering Jewelry

Mechanics in Motion. Elegance in Engineering. Hidden within countless machines, from electric cars to robotic arms, moves a delightful mechanism within engineering: the planetary gear train, also known as epicyclic gearing. Planetary gears are compact, powerful, efficient, and versatile. Their ability to provide high torque in a small space while allowing multiple speed and direction outputs makes them indispensable in modern mechanical engineering.  Our Planetary Gears Necklace brings mechanical brilliance to life with real working gears that actually spin! Crafted with extreme precision, the pendant features a fully functional miniature gear system, complete with a central “sun” gear and three orbiting “planet” gears, just like real-world planetary gear systems. With a gentle turn, the gears engage and rotate smoothly—transforming mechanical motion into wearable art.  The polished silver steel and gold plated steel pendants measure 1 inch in diameter and are available on a variety of chains and leather cords. Durable and lightweight for everyday wear, this necklace is also stylistically versatile enough to span t-shirts to prom dresses and everything in between. As an extra bonus, the pendant doubles as a satisfying kinetic fidget. Like all of our jewelry, this necklace comes ready for gifting in a hand-stamped gift box (or black velvet bag for international orders) along with a little card explaining the meaning of the design. Perfect for: Engineers, robotics enthusiasts, physicists Teachers, students, makers Anyone who finds joy in the way things work!
