Pilsner Malt - Riverbend

Delicate Cracker Crispness • Palest Base Malt • Essential for Classic Lagers Pilsner Malt is the lightest and most delicate of all base malts, prized for the crisp cracker-like flavor and subtle honeyed sweetness that define the world's great lagers. Kilned at very low temperatures, it preserves a clean, fresh grain character that lets crisp lager fermentations and noble hops show through with total clarity. With an extract potential of 37 PPG and a color of just 1.7 °Lovibond, Pilsner Malt produces the palest wort of any malt in the brewhouse — the straw-gold brilliance of a true pils starts here. Despite its light kilning, it retains plenty of enzymatic power for converting adjuncts. Flavor & Aroma Profile Light, delicate grain flavor Crisp cracker and water-biscuit notes Subtle honey-like sweetness Clean, fresh malt aroma Brilliant pale straw color contribution Because Pilsner Malt is so delicate, the beer's character comes down to process: a full Pilsner base rewards good fermentation with snappy, elegant malt flavor, while blends with Vienna or Munich add depth without losing the crisp foundation. Brewing ApplicationsPilsner Malt is a staple ingredient in many classic European beer styles, including: German Pilsner Czech Premium Pale Lager Munich Helles Kölsch Belgian Tripel Witbier and Saison It is also the preferred pale base for most Belgian ales, where its delicate sweetness supports expressive yeast character. Usage RecommendationsPilsner Malt can make up to 100% of the grain bill, and in classic lagers it typically does. Use it alone for the crispest, palest result, or blend in small amounts of Vienna, Munich, or Carapils for added depth and foam. Pair it with noble hops like Saaz or Hallertau Mittelfrüh and a clean lager strain such as W-34/70 for textbook European character.
