At Honduras Threads, every product tells a story of collaboration and craftsmanship. The Happy Frog pillow features a unique design by highly regarded American artist Carter Ernst, brought to life by Honduran artisan Esthela Matute. Esthela and the rest of the women of the Honduras Threads collective learned their advanced embroidery skills from  American embroidery experts to master their craft and produce exceptional, intricate designs. 100% of every purchase goes directly back to the artisan's collective, where it’s reinvested into their community and continuing education. Their work does more than create beautiful pillows and table runners—it fosters dignity, self-respect, and opportunities for growth. Since 2002, the women of the Honduras have made every home-good on our website possible. Using their business skills and artistic talents, they handcraft each unique product with care and precision. About the Artist Carter Ernst was born in Oklahoma in 1953; her family settled in Corpus Christi, Texas in the ‘60s. Carter earned her BFA in painting at the University of Houston in 1976 and later returned to UH to complete an MFA in sculpture. Carter is married to sculptor Paul Kittelson. They live in Houston, Texas, and spend their summer months in the Black Hills of Dakota. They share a mutual sense of humor and appreciation for the outdoors. The natural world colliding with humanity’s present imprint on the planet is at the crux of Carter’s art. Fauna and flora are transformed into odd hybrids of natural and artificial, real and imagined. Potentially disappearing species become playfully distorted before evolving into fable. Whether feral or domesticated, the sculptures serve as metaphorical talismans with the power to humor and heal wounded spirits. About the Artisan Esthela Matute has been working with Honduras Threads for 21 years. She is 41 years old and lives in the El Cruce community near Tegucigalpa.
