Philodendron Tortum | medium 6in

Take one look at this plant and you’ll see why it’s sometimes called Fernleaf Philodendron. Each leaf is deeply lobed, giving it a ferny appearance. The lacy texture stands out from a lot of other common Philodendron. As additional interest, the new leaves emerge a coppery-orange color. They slowly unfurl, showing off an otherworldly appearance. Hailing from areas of Brazil and Bolivia, this climbing aroid has been hard to find and relatively expensive until now. It’s related to Monstera, Epipremnum, and Rhaphidophora. It features lacy, almost fern-like leaves that can reach more than 12 inches long. Because of its climbing nature, it’s an excellent choice for growing on a totem, moss pole, or wall. Philodendron tortum grows best in medium to bright light (within 3 to 4 feet of a large, unobstructed east- or west-facing window is often ideal). It can be supplemented – or grow entirely – under artificial lights, as well. Water as the top half or so of the potting mix dries to the touch, provide average household temperatures, and average to above-average relative humidity levels (above 40 percent is optimal). Note: This plant may have some natural degree of toxicity and may cause discomfort or illness if ingested. Additionally, exposure to the sap of this plant may cause discomfort to individuals with a sensitivity to it upon contact.
