Description Light/Soil/Water Hardiness The Philodendron 'Silver Sword' is a rare and breathtaking aroid known for its sleek, metallic foliage. If you want a plant that looks like it was forged from sterling silver, this is the one for your collection. This species, Philodendron hastatum, is famous for its distinctive "sword-shaped" leaves. Unlike many philodendrons that remain deep green, the Silver Sword boasts a stunning metallic, blue-silver sheen that reflects light beautifully. What makes this plant truly unique is its ontogeny (how it changes as it grows). As a juvenile, the leaves are small and heart-shaped. However, as the plant matures and begins to climb, the leaves elongate into narrow, pointed "swords" with prominent lobes at the base, looking increasingly dramatic and architectural. Bright, Indirect Light. To keep that metallic silver color vibrant, give it plenty of light. Too little light will cause the leaves to turn a duller green. Well-Draining Aroid Mix. Prefers a "chunky" soil with orchid bark, perlite, and charcoal to prevent the roots from sitting in water. Moderate. Water when the top 50% of the soil is dry. It is slightly more sensitive to overwatering than the common Heartleaf Philo. Ideal: 65°F–85°F (18°C–29°C). It loves humidity! If your home is dry, consider a pebble tray or a humidifier. 9-11 (Grown strictly as an indoor tropical elsewhere).
