Philodendron Billietiae Philodendron billietiae A hemiepiphytic climber native to Brazil, Guyana, and French Guiana, immediately recognizable for its long, narrow, elongated paddle-shaped leaves with wavy margins and its extraordinary bright orange to golden-yellow petioles — a petiole color so saturated and unusual within the genus that it makes the plant identifiable from across a room. The deep green leaves can reach impressive lengths on a well-grown climbing specimen. A vigorous, relatively forgiving climber that produces progressively larger leaves with vertical support. Light: Bright indirect light supports the fastest growth and most vivid petiole color; tolerates moderate light but produces smaller leaves. Avoid direct harsh sun. Soil: Chunky, well-draining aroid mix of orchid bark, perlite, and coco coir; excellent drainage and aeration essential. Never waterlogged. Temperature/Humidity: Warm temperatures between 65-85°F; humidity of 60-70% supports the best leaf quality, though it adapts to average household humidity reasonably well. Watering: Allow the top 1-2" of medium to dry between waterings; water thoroughly and drain completely. Never waterlog. Fertilizer: Feed with a balanced liquid fertilizer every 4 weeks during active growth; supplement with calcium and magnesium for best leaf quality. Reduce in winter.
