This work begins with phenomenology and the experience of being seen. The body disappears, leaving only the skin and the eyes. Blackness becomes both a surface and a space that has to be navigated. The eyes suggest the constant act of looking and being looked at. Skin becomes the first thing read before anything else can be known. The heavy black surface holds the weight of that reduction. Small fragments underneath reveal that there is always more beneath what is immediately visible. The work questions what happens when a person is reduced to the surface of their body. It asks whether we can ever truly see someone beyond the skin. Acrylic skin, archival wallpaper on canvas. 2025 24 x 48 in
