Peureux by Henri LeMonnier

Step back in time with this striking 1925 French liquor advertising poster, "Peureux," a vibrant promotion for Peureux Creme d'Anis absinthe liqueur. Illustrated by the renowned Henri LeMonnier, this authentic stone-lithograph vividly captures the spirit of the Roaring Twenties through its dynamic and arresting design. Henri LeMonnier, a celebrated name in French artistic circles, is known for his ability to blend bold colors and dramatic figures to capture and convey the essence of the product he advertises. His work on the "Peureux" poster is no exception, providing not just an advertisement but a piece of art that stands out for its style and vibrancy. Centered on a brilliant red backdrop, the poster features a charismatic figure clad in a lime green suit, exuding an air of allure and mystery. The stark red cross on his chest draws the eye, symbolizing perhaps the vivifying or medicinal qualities attributed to the absinthe he boldly offers forth from the canvas. This vivid depiction not only invites but intrigues, encouraging viewers to indulge in the exotic flavors of Peureux Creme d'Anis. This poster is a survivor from pre-World War II France. The war led to significant paper shortages, resulting in the destruction of almost all posters from this period.
