More than half the country is covered in trees, making up about 260,000 square miles of forested areas. The abundance of trees makes Peru one of the most biodiverse countries in the world – home to iconic species like jaguars, black spider monkeys, poison dart frogs, and so many more. With over 330,000 people who depend directly on the Peru's forests for their livelihoods, One Tree Planted has made it a priority to protect, restore and reforest Peruvian forests. The Amazon Rainforest spans across nine different countries with Peru being home to the second-largest portion of the iconic rainforest. With the Amazon recently listed as a one of the most threatened areas to deforestation, planting projects are aimed at protecting Peru's beautifully diverse forests and  restoring degraded land. The trees planted throughout the country will help safeguard wildlife habitats and impact local communities for generations by mitigating the effects of climate change and providing clean drinking water.
