Performance Optimized Wedge | Image Dynamics IDQ 12 Single 12" Sealed Wedge Enclosure | Rear-Firing Trunk-Load Design for the IDQ12 V4 1.4 ft³ Gross Rear-Firing Wedge Driver-Specific 24" × 15" × 8.75/14.2" V-Groove / Dado Built in Tennessee The IDQ12 V4 in a Trunk-Load Wedge The Image Dynamics IDQ12 V4 is one of the most respected SQ 12" subwoofers on the market — a 375-watt RMS driver with 14.5mm linear Xmax, a 280 oz motor, and a field-replaceable cone assembly that has been used in sound quality competition for over a decade. The IDQ12 needs a properly sized sealed cabinet to deliver on its potential, and it needs one that actually fits in real trunks without eating the entire cargo bay. The Performance Optimized Wedge Sealed 12 for IDQ is that cabinet. The wedge geometry has the woofer mounted on the vertical trunk-lid-side face, firing rearward into the trunk cavity. The angled face on the opposite side tucks against the rear seat back, matching the natural lean of most factory rear seats. Same driver-specific engineering as our rectangular PO enclosures, packaged in a shape that installs cleanly against the seat and uses the trunk cavity for acoustic loading. 1.4 cubic feet gross internal volume (approximately 1.3 cubic feet net after driver displacement) — inside Image Dynamics' specified sealed range of 0.65 to 1.8 cubic feet for the IDQ12 V4, sitting well into the audiophile side where the driver's low-end extension fully develops. Trunk-Load Wedge Design Explained This wedge is not a front-firing enclosure. The woofer is mounted on the vertical face that sits at the back of the box, closest to the trunk lid, and fires rearward into the trunk cavity. The angled face is on the opposite side of the box — the side that faces the front of the vehicle — and tucks against the rear seat back. Two different problems solved by one geometry. Seat-Side Face Matches Seat Lean Most factory rear seat backs lean roughly 20 degrees back from vertical. The angled face of this wedge (8.75" at the top, 14.2" at the bottom) matches that lean, tucking against the seat back with no wasted gap. The wedge fills the trunk shelf area behind the seat cleanly. Trunk-Lid-Side Face Fires the Woofer The vertical face on the opposite side of the wedge (24" wide × 15" tall) is where the IDQ12 mounts. The driver fires rearward toward the trunk lid, using the trunk cavity as an acoustic loading chamber. This is the classic SQ trunk-load install pattern. Trunk Cavity Loading Firing the woofer into the trunk cavity rather than directly into the cabin uses the trunk itself as an extension of the acoustic system. Low frequencies transmit into the passenger cabin through the rear deck, seat back, and cabin boundaries — a smoother, less localized presentation than direct-firing setups. Preserves Trunk Cargo Space The wedge tucks against the seat back where cargo can't be stored anyway. The bottom face sits flat and stable on the trunk floor. Cargo space in front of the wedge (toward the trunk lid) stays usable for daily driving. Engineered Around the IDQ12 V4's Parameters Image Dynamics specifies the IDQ12 V4 for sealed enclosures between 0.65 cubic feet (compact) and 1.8 cubic feet (audiophile). The Performance Optimized Wedge Sealed 12 delivers 1.4 cubic feet gross — approximately 1.3 cubic feet net after driver displacement — which sits well into the audiophile portion of ID's specified range. That's where the IDQ12's low-end extension characteristics fully develop and Qtc lands in the balanced range for musical accuracy. Volume Selection 1.3 cubic feet net (1.4 gross) is above ID's compact spec but below the maximum audiophile spec — the middle-upper portion of the range where the IDQ12 delivers both extension and transient control. Smaller cabinets like 0.65 cubic feet tighten the response and dry out the low end. Larger cabinets like 1.8 push toward loose. 1.3 net is the balanced audiophile target. Mounting Geometry The vertical trunk-lid-side baffle is cut to the IDQ12 V4's exact 10.937" cutout specification. The IDQ12's 5.91" mounting depth fits comfortably inside the cabinet — clearance from the vertical baffle to the interior of the angled seat-side face ranges from 8.75" at the top to 14.2" at the bottom. 8/32 threaded inserts are pressed into the baffle backside for secure driver retention. Performance Series Construction, Driver-Specific Tuning Langboard Elite MDF Premium 3/4" MDF panels milled to documented spec — denser and more dimensionally stable than commodity MDF. Less panel resonance, tighter joints, and a longer service life under daily use at real power levels. V-Groove and Dado Joinery CNC-cut V-grooves at every panel intersection let the wedge cabinet fold into its angled shape with maximum glue surface. Dado joints lock the vertical woofer baffle and the angled seat-side panel into the side walls — no fasteners visible from outside, no exposed end grain at joints. 8/32 Threaded Inserts Threaded inserts pressed into the vertical woofer baffle accept stainless steel mounting screws. No stripped pilot holes, no MDF damage from drywall screws, no surprises when the next driver upgrade rolls around. Pre-Wired Terminal Cup Proline X ABS/carbon fiber composite terminal cup, pre-wired with 12-gauge OFC inside the cabinet, with stainless steel hardware accepting both spade and banana terminations on the input side. Every panel is cut on ShopSabre CNC routers in our Tullahoma, TN facility. The angled seat-side panel requires precise CNC compound cuts to hit both the volume target and the mating angles between the top and bottom edges — tolerances that manual fabrication can't reliably hold. Internal volume is verified on every unit. Customize Your Build Carpet Finish Dark Gray Trunkliner is the standard durable wrap, matched to most factory trunk and cargo-area carpet tones. Plush Black (+$10) is a deeper, more luxurious nap that pairs well with blacked-out interiors and show builds. Acrylic Insert Color Choose Black, Blue, Red, or White for the baffle insert to match your build. Or skip the insert entirely (-$40) for a clean, understated look. The insert is purely cosmetic — performance is identical across colors. Box-Only or Loaded Add a Dual 2-ohm or Dual 4-ohm Image Dynamics IDQ12 V4 driver directly to your order and we'll ship the complete loaded system, ready to wire to your amplifier. Already own your IDQ12? Order the enclosure box-only and drop in the driver you have. Wiring the IDQ12 V4 to Your Amplifier The Image Dynamics IDQ12 V4 is a dual voice coil driver available in Dual 2-ohm (D2) or Dual 4-ohm (D4) configurations. The pre-wired terminal cup accepts either impedance version via 12-gauge OFC, with stainless steel input hardware. A Dual 2-ohm IDQ12 wired in parallel presents a 1-ohm load. A Dual 2-ohm wired in series presents 4 ohms. A Dual 4-ohm IDQ12 wired in parallel presents 2 ohms, and wired in series presents 8 ohms. The IDQ12 is rated for 375 watts RMS — aim for a clean, well-regulated amplifier delivering 300 to 400 watts at your chosen impedance. The IDQ rewards clean power, not headline peak numbers. Built in Tennessee, Backed by Audio Intensity Every Performance Optimized enclosure is CNC-cut, assembled, and finished in our Tullahoma, TN facility. Components are pulled from inventory after your order is placed, then bonded and wrapped — a 2 to 5 business day assembly window before the box ships. No pre-built inventory sitting in warehouses, warping in storage. Each unit is built to order. Backed by a 1-year limited warranty against structural failure and hardware defects.
