Penmanship Scarf

The Penmanship 1809 blanket captures early 19th-century cursive writing samples at the edge of legibility. Flowing script scatters across the surface in loose, organic arrangement, where individual words dissolve into rhythmic marks and gestural patterns. Reversible to a textural birdseye pattern in dark charcoal, the blanket offers both delicate detail and bold graphic depth, celebrating the fading art of penmanship. Part of our Calligram series, this blanket celebrates a historic art form where stylized lettering creates visual compositions, transforming text into shape and symbol. These drawings were especially popular in the 18th and 19th centuries as expressions of both literary and visual creativity.
