Alchemy Gothic Pendle Hill Imp Cat Face Pewter Pendant P1022

Lurking in the shadows, listening at the door, Poised upon a rooftop with a sharpened claw; Swishing through the churchyard, quicker than the dead, Dancing with the demons while good folk lie a bed. And nine is the number, three by three; She'll slip into the velvet coat, a familiar friend to thee. But the ninth shall be the last, for witch she'll be no more; Forever trapped in feline form, for such is Pendle's law. 16th century north country ballad (Anon). Nine is the sacred number of times a witch may assume the guise of a cat. Yet the gift of taking feline form comes at a terrible price. Any sister of the night whose nocturnal metamorphosis passes the sacred eighth transformation may never again walk in human skin. Should she dare embrace the ninth, she is forever bound to the shape of the beast, condemned to wander the desolate places where the old gods still hold sway. Long before the witch trials, Pendle Hill was such a place. Steeped in the dark folklore of Lancashire's infamous Pendle witches, Pendle Hill Imp captures the mischievous spirit of the feline familiar said to prowl the rooftops and churchyards beneath the cover of darkness. With watchful eyes and a knowing expression, this enchanting pendant pays homage to the ancient tales of witches and their mysterious companions. Beautifully made in fine English pewter, the intricately detailed cat clutches a hand-painted black rose between its teeth, a symbol of secrecy, magic and the bond between witch and familiar. Every contour of the fur and every delicate petal has been carefully brought to life, creating a striking piece rich in storytelling and gothic charm. Both playful and enigmatic, Pendle Hill Imp is a tribute to the legends of Pendle Hill and the timeless allure of the black cat.
