Traditional Pot Distillation – Preserves the bold, full-bodied mouthfeel and enhances esters and congeners that contribute to a well-rounded whisky. Aging in Oak Casks – Scottish whisky is aged in ex-bourbon, sherry, or wine barrels, imparting flavors of vanilla, spice, dried fruit, and oak. Peat Intensity – The 20% heavy peated malt addition provides a pronounced but balanced smoky character, reminiscent of lightly peated Highland whiskies or moderately peated Islay styles. More About Peated Scottish Whisky Peated Scottish whisky is known for its rich, smoky character, derived from drying malted barley over peat fires. This method imparts distinctive phenolic compounds, creating flavors ranging from subtle earthiness to intense medicinal smokiness. Whisky vs. Whiskey: What’s the Difference? The difference between whisky and whiskey primarily comes down to geography and tradition: Whisky (no "e") – Used in Scotland, Canada, and Japan. Whiskey (with "e") – Used in Ireland and the United States. Why the Difference? The spelling variation dates back to the 19th century, when Irish distillers added an "e" to distinguish their whiskey from Scottish whisky. This convention was later adopted by American distillers.
