Partnership ~ Gebo Rune

The image side of this Rune shows two entwines forms, that create a stable pillar. The shapes interact with each other, but also go off in their own directions. This represents the ability to be together, while also being independent.  The symbol side of this piece shows the Gebo rune, which comes from the Old Norse word “gjöf,” that translates to “gift” or “giving.” This rune is traditionally associated with the concept of a gift or an exchange. It symbolizes balance and reciprocity which can be seen it the shape of two crossed lines. Like two lines bending forward to meet face to face, this rune symbolizes connection between two people. The joined shapes can be interpreted as the lifelines of two people whose paths cross, forming something stronger and more beneficial now that they are together. In this way, Geo is an excellent rune for relationship. Gebo belongs to the First Aett, which represents the cycle of life. These are the core aspects of human existence, and the necessary phases that each of us must experience during our journey through this life. These aspects of life can be taken literally, or they can be understood metaphorically to represent current forces and events. Gebo can be interpreted entering into a union with ourselves, uniting disparate aspects of Self to create a stronger Whole. The Norse Rune or "letter" featured on one side of my Runes is taken from a writing system called Elder Futhark. There are many explanations of this Norse writing system in both classical and popular literature. The image side of every Rune represents emotional attributes of its Nordic letter and are pictograms of my own creation. Each Rune description includes an etymological reference of historical origins well as modern meanings.   There are a total of 24 Elder Futhark Runes. They can be divided into three groups of 8 runes each. Each group of 8 is called an “aett” which has an several underlying meanings that can be shared by all 8 runes within it. The additional insight from the Aett formation can help clarify individual rune interpretations. These beautiful, handmade Rune Charms are heavyweight, with deep carvings on both sides of the Rune. Each Rune comes with a jump ring large enough to thread on a chain.  The one shown is the  2.2mm Square Cable Chain. Runes are solid Sterling Silver and measure approximately 5/8" high x 7/16" wide x 3/32" deep.
