Pancake Creeping Juniper

Pancake Creeping Juniper (Juniperus horizontalis 'Pancake') is the flattest ground cover juniper in cultivation, holding a blue-green mat only 2 to 4 inches tall that spreads 2 to 3 feet wide in zones 3 through 9. Cold weather brings a purple cast to the foliage that fades again in spring. Blue Rug and Blue Chip, the creeping junipers most people know, still build up several inches of height as they mature. Pancake does not. It hugs the ground so closely that it follows the contour of whatever it grows over, which makes it the right plant for spilling across a flat stone, a wall cap, or the top of a retaining wall. Plant it where its flatness is the point, such as a rock garden, a gravel garden, a parking strip, or the front edge of a sunny bed. It is a good erosion holder on a gentle slope and it handles road salt and reflected heat better than most evergreens. Light: full sun, minimum six hours Water: water through the first season, then drought tolerant Soil: well drained, sandy or rocky ground suits it Care: no pruning needed, keep mulch off the stems Add Pancake Creeping Juniper to your cart.
