Pale Morning Dun

Pale Morning Dun The Pale Morning Dun, or PMD, is a mayfly that is found in many parts of the world, but it is especially common in the western United States. The PMD is a small fly, typically about 10-14 millimeters long, and it has a grayish-olive body with clear wings. The PMD hatch typically occurs in the morning, hence the name, and it can be a very prolific hatch. Trout love to eat PMDs, and the PMD hatch can be a great time to catch fish. There are a few different ways to fish the PMD. One way is to dead drift the fly through the water. This is a good way to imitate a natural PMD that is drifting downstream. Another way to fish the PMD is to use a retrieve. This can be a good way to fish the PMD if the water is moving quickly or if there is a lot of surface debris. The PMD is a versatile fly that can be fished in a variety of conditions. It is a great fly to add to your fly box if you are looking for a fly that will imitate PMDs and catch trout. Here are some additional tips for fishing the PMD: • Fish the PMD in areas where you would find PMDs. • Use a light tippet, as the PMD is a small fly. • Present the PMD gently, as trout can be easily spooked. • Dead drift the PMD, or fish it with a retrieve. • Be patient, as trout may take a few minutes to decide to eat the PMD.
