Crafted with a carbon and wood hybrid construction, it combines strength, durability, and an average weight of just 19 ounces. With a seamless design and options for sleek solid black or wide-weave carbon twill finishes, this paddle is not just functional but also visually striking. HCRA-approved and built to last, it’s a dependable choice for steersmen seeking enhanced performance in competitive or recreational paddling. Customizable Shaft Options for Every Steering Style Choose between a straight shaft or a double-bend shaft, each tailored for different steering needs. The straight shaft, set at 5 degrees, offers instant control for techniques like crabbing or J-stroking, making it a classic choice for traditionalists. For a more modern approach, the double bend—set at 7 degrees—aligns seamlessly with your crew, reduces wrist strain, and provides a stronger pull angle. Whether you prefer traditional or modern styles, the Pala Steer Paddle adapts to your unique technique for maximum efficiency. Optimized Length and Blade Design for Superior Handling The Pala Steer Paddle features a 9-inch-wide blade with a length of 22 inches, ensuring optimal water displacement and control. Its extended blade length is ideal for steering, offering consistent performance in every stroke. Available in shaft lengths from 46 to 54 inches, the paddle lets you maintain your preferred arm span and paddling posture. The blade’s innovative design and customizable length make it the perfect choice for steersmen of all skill levels, ensuring comfort and confidence on the water. Palafamala Steering Blade Paddle Specs Straight Shaft This is the traditional steering blade set at 5 degrees. This degree allows for instant control of the canoe when “J-stroking”. It also allows you to have easy control of the blade when screaming down a wave or locking down a turn in regattas. Double Bend The blade on the double bend is set at 7 degrees. This allows the steersman to blend in better with their crew when paddling. The double bend also allows you to relax your bottom wrist and pull at a stronger angle. If you are used to paddling with a double bend then steering with one will make you feel like more of a paddler. This blade is good for bottom grabbers and one handed pokers since it is easier to keep the blade flush to the hull by letting go of the T top. Size When ordering your steering blade don’t forget to take into consideration that the blade is 22” long. You will want to make sure that you have the shaft length that you need to maintain the arm span that you are used to.
