Hand painted Paddle by Norman Knott This striking contemporary Paddle- Cree Painted Goose showcases the bold artistry of Norman Knott (White Bear, 1945–2003). Knott was a celebrated Curve Lake First Nation artist whose work remains highly sought after. The paddle measures 36 inches long and 5.5 inches at its widest point. Knott painted a powerful scene on the flat face of the paddle. A stylized sun rises behind pine trees as a Canada goose glides across an orange sky. The vivid colors and confident brushwork create immediate impact. He painted the handle and shaft with intricate geometric patterns and eyelet motifs. Knott used yellow, blue, white, black, and red to create repeating designs that highlight his precision and cultural expression. These details reflect his mastery of linework and his deep connection to Anishinaabe visual traditions. Knott—known as White Bear—was born and raised on the Curve Lake First Nation Reserve north of Peterborough, Ontario. He built a respected career blending contemporary style with cultural storytelling. This paddle captures the strength of his artistic voice and offers collectors a display‑ready example of his work.
