Smidge combed the world to find you the best food source of zinc, partnering with a small aquaculture family in Ireland, where long-time oystermen sustainably harvest oysters from the sparkling Atlantic coastline. Here’s more... When sourcing oysters, Smidge takes a conservation-driven approach aimed at preserving native species and supporting the survival of endangered varieties. They derive the extract from Crassostrea gigas, harvested at their peak nutritional levels – carefully considering various growth parameters, including geographical, temporal, and seasonal factors. This precise approach is informed by decades of expertise in marine biology. Then, the oysters are promptly shucked and gently convection-dried at low temperatures. This method is designed to preserve the oysters' nutritional content, with meticulous monitoring of temperature, moisture and water activity. Finally, the dried oysters are finely ground, encapsulated and carefully hand-filled into bottles. Meanwhile, shells are returned to the ocean to support marine restoration, providing a habitat that encourages the growth of baby oysters. Oysterzinc nutrients Because Smidge® Oysterzinc is a real food with all of its cofactors, it naturally provides an excellent source of zinc. Its natural cofactors include: peptides, amino acids, and organic nutrients, making it bioavailable and easy to absorb. Plus, it’s rich in naturally occurring vitamin B12 and copper, and a good source of iodine. It also has selenium, which is an antioxidant, like zinc!  Still wondering what more awaits once you pry open that clamped silvery shell? Oysters are bursting with:   19 amino acids (including taurine)  59 trace minerals  12 vitamins  Omega-3 DHA and EPA All of these goodies are naturally present in sensible concentrations, so they can harmoniously work inside your body.  Why a natural zinc supplement from oysters? Oysters contain the most zinc in any food — 10 times higher than the next richest source, red meat! But eating an oyster or taking an oyster zinc supplement differs from popping a commercial zinc tablet in an isolated form. Taking zinc in an isolated form can upset the body's natural mineral and nutrient balance, as it doesn't include zinc's inherent nutritional cofactors. For instance, the body's important copper reserve can become depleted if zinc is taken on its own. Immune system support When you feel the sniffles or aches coming on, or the stuffiness that precludes a head cold, Oysterzinc may support your immune system.  Zinc is a vital mineral that your body uses in hundreds of ways. Primarily, to nourish and support the immune system. See, the human body needs zinc to activate T lymphocytes (T cells), which help the body control and regulate immune responses. Zinc has also been found to shorten the duration of the common cold and ease the symptoms when taken within 24 hours of the onset.  On the other hand, zinc deficiency can do a number on immune system function, causing increased susceptibility to various pathogens and a host of health issues. Researchers have discovered that improving zinc levels through diet and supplementation may ease inflammation. More health benefits of zinc supplementation In addition to nourishing your immune system, zinc has myriad documented health benefits. Scientific studies state that zinc may support:  Skin integrity and structure Brain health  Sperm quality and male fertility  Eye health Occasional diarrhea Growth, development and cognition in babies and children
